On Wednesday 28th May 2010, Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Spitalfields
closed its doors to the public for one night only as gbk’s consultant
chef, Peter Gordon, took over the kitchen and played host for an
exclusive evening of ‘Fusion’ food. Our competition winners had to tell us in their own words why they should be invited to the evening & answer the question: ‘I love Peter Gordon so much because…..’ There were some pretty quirky answers!
Our VIP GBK Gang competition
winners came together with top food writers for the special night.
Starting the evening with mini gbk burger nibbles - developed by Peter
himself- they received a special address from the New Zealand chef and
gbk’s MD David Sykes. Guests then enjoyed a splash of wine tasting
courtesy of Oddbins wines before they embarked upon a culinary
adventure with cookery demonstrations from Peter.
He answered winner’s
burning questions as he cooked up some his new innovative combinations
from his latest book; The Culinary Journey- of which every guest
received a personally signed copy of! Peter commented on his night: “It
was great to be back in the kitchen at gbk and get involved on a more
of one-to one basis with my fans- it was certainly a fantastic night
enjoyed by all!”

The Cambridge University Boat Club crew fought an awesome race against Oxford in the 155th Xchanging Boat Race on Sunday coming in as the winning team - well done crew! The weekend before the race they were getting an extra energy boost at gbk Putney. After a tough year trying to combine a degree, five hours of training every day as well as finding time to pack in 6000 calories (often with GBK burgers) they came home with the trophy.”
We gave the crew an extra incentive to win - a private gbk BBQ for 50 people before the end of term - see you there guys!
We do really love you too Oxford Dark Blues - but no-one got in touch with us!
“Every time we go for a team meal, we always choose GBK. The
guys love the variety and it all tastes great.” Deaglan McEachern, CUBC
President, USA
“I absolutely love
GBK. They do literally the best burgers in Cambridge or London.” George Nash,
UK
“I go at least once a week. I think I’m addicted!” Henry
Pelly, NZ
“GBK is my go-to place when I’m looking for some quality
food. Being a proud New Zealander, I’m attractred to the Kiwi atmosphere, as
well as the Kiwi Burgers and Steinlager Pure, which I’m yet to find anywhere
else in Cambridge or Putney. It’s always a bit of Steiny for me if there’s no
training in the morning, or an Oreo milkshake if there is. Good food, sweet
portion sizes. I love it.” Alex Ross, NZ
